Boracay on a Budget
A friend was asking me of our expenses going to Boracay. Since I was the one who processed the expenses for my team, I know the budget.
TIP: Don’t forget to bring medicines for headache (biogesic), LBM (imodium) and for traveling dizziness (bonamine). Plus bottled water.
Here are the following:
- Manila to Iloilo (Cebu Pacific) would cost Php 1,577 per person (by March or May 2008, there will be direct flights from Manila to Caticlan and vise versa on a much expensive cost)
- Davao to Iloilo would cost about Php 3,117 per person
- We rented 2 vans from Bennch transport service for Php 6,500 each van for a round trip. The van could fit 14 people.
- If you take a bus, it would cost Php 250+ per person from Iloilo to Caticlan. [If there are 14 of you in your group, you could save if you use a van]
- At the Caticlan Port, you would need to pay Php 100 per person. [Environmental fee of Php 50, Terminal fee of Php 20, Boat fee of Php 30]
- In the Boracay Port, we hire 2 multicabs to go to our hotel. Each could fit 11 person. Each multicab costs Php 250.
- We stayed at Baeay hotel, it has the same owner as the SeaWind hotel. The Baeay is on the Station 3 and not on a beach front, while the SeaWind is on Station 1 and on the beach front, that is why SeaWind is soo expensive. The Baeay has a room good for 4 person that costs Php 1,500 a day and a Php 2,000 that is a much bigger room. It is a comfortable place to stay and the price fits our budget. They have a kitchen which you could freely use and free coffee and water whenever you need.
- You could walk going to the beach to save money, but you could ride a tricycle which costs Php 5 going to D*Talipapa or Php 7 going to D*Mall. My team had tried walking in going to the beach, and its fun.
- Restaurant there are too expensive, you could eat a chicken meal at Cindy’s or Mang Inasal for less than Php 80.
- Souvenirs are expensive as well, if before I could buy something on a Php 5, now I couldn’t find any. The cheapest I could find was a Php 10 bracelet, which I don’t recommend. For me, it is not nice. I bought a 7 for Php 100 cellphone decor with a slipper design. I bought my son and daughter 2 shirts each that is worth Php 150 each.
- Enjoyment, we had an Island hopping for Php 2,2000 for one boat that could accommodate 20 people. Normally, this would cost Php 650 per person. I have no idea what the cost of the banana ride is, it was my client who negotiated it. It is also better to resort on Helmet dive than to go Scuba because it is much cheaper. In scuba, you may not pass the test and still pay for it.
- In going back we paid Php 100 for the tricycle or Php 20 each person for 5 person.
- At the Boracay Port we only paid Php 39.50. [That is Terminal fee of Php 20, Boat fee of Php 19.50]
I guess that was it. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to comment.

whooo-hoo! wow, you really stayed in some lowclass accomodations. So sorry to hear you came all the way to Boracay and ended up living in those places…4 people to a room? Thats how the working girls here live.
But good comment on the helmet swimming…anyone who has anydoubt about scuba should definately stay away. One way around it is to goto the Korean scuba shops, they will hand-carry people without fins who just want to get underwater and break off peices of reef for souvineers….highly forbidden buy hey, the koreans get to do whatever they want here.

The important thing is we enjoyed it. It may be low class for you … we are not that high class anyways …

Like nga sa mang inasal o cindy’s.
Kung bibili kayo ng souvinirs, just buy yung mga tag Php 10 or 7 for 100. Eto yung 7 for 100 na slipper design cp abubut -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/intiendes/2182113913/
Compute mo lang yung gagastosin in terms of transportation, nabigay ko naman ata yung prices sa itaas

Hi Ms. Junelle. Just want to ask how to contact Baeay. Also, how far is it from the beach? Should we decide to cook, do they have readily available cookware & utensils. Thanks so much for all your info. - Mitch

I think Baeay is a decent place. “low class accommodation” only applies if you’re not getting what you’re paying for and there are a few of expensive resorts who are like that.
Helmet diving- if that lets you walk along the ocean floor trudging on corals, then thats not environmentally friendly.

I look for that bacolod chicken inasal in bora but it just me dissappointed. They don’t have it there.

hi
thanks for your detailed post, we intend to go to bora this month and were taking the iloilo route as well, and im scheduling a round trip fare, so i would like to inquire what time is the availability of the bus from iloilo to caticlan? how bout when we depart boracay going back to iloilo airport, what time do the buses from caticlan to iloilo leaves, and would you know the time of the last trip?so that we will not miss the flight. thank you.
Junelle said:
Hi Marie, I don’t know much about the bus but the last time I asked when I went to the terminal, they told me there is no schedule but whenever the bus is full, that is the time they go.
If you are on a tight schedule, I prefer to use a rented van. It would give you ease in traveling to lessen your stress.
We used Bennch Transport service http://iloilo.ph/bennch-transport-services/
Good luck and enjoy your trip.
