High SGPT

Posted By Junelle on November 12th, 2007 | 33,596 views

I have an SGPT above average. The average is 4 to 36 u/l and mine is 49 u/l. I don’t know if I should be alarmed, but I searched its meaning and it is:

“SGPT: Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase, an enzyme that is normally present in liver and heart cells. SGPT is released into blood when the liver or heart are damaged. The blood SGPT levels are thus elevated with liver damage (for example, from viral hepatitis) or with an insult to the heart (for example, from a heart attack). Some medications can also raise SGPT levels. Also called alanine aminotransferase (ALT).” Ref: http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=6321

I guess I should be taking care of my body now, I hope I would see my doctor soon. I’m having a hard time, finding time for it. Busy with work and a lot of other things …

UPDATE: Please read the comments to see if your question has already been asked or answered. I have been receiving the same questions over and over. Thank You.

  • First off, all of these side effects are alot better than dying from cancer, so count your blessings and don't piddle in what your problems are now. If I were you, I'd be pretty thankful.. My mom had a masectomy just a week ago as well. Weight gain will generally only be cause becuase the drugs they give you will help up your appetite, since most cancer patient's don't have much of one.

hi ate junnelle...i would like to share some tips on how to lower down the SGPT..before i had a very high sgpt..194.90 to be exact..i was about 67-70kgs at the age of 23..i took medications like Legalon, Jetepar, etc.. after 6 mos. i took another lb. tests and i found out that i had 76.40 sgpt.. then 1 week after my sgpt 69.60.. what i did?? i just ate papaya almost everyday (morning and evening with medications), pineapple juice and lots of water and fruits...if you're going to plan to take a lab. test on the other day, you would just do this: eat papaya (morning, afternoon, dinner), drink pineapple juice (3-4 cans small one), lots of water. At 6pm, you will have to take 1TBSP. of EPSOM SALT on lukewarm water, repeat it at 8pm..At 10pm you will have to squeeze a fresh calamansi or lemon juice (half a cup), mix it with 1TBSP. of EPSOM SALT and you have to add also the OLIVE OIL or CANOLA OIL...then you will drink it and after you drink, no food shall be eaten (fasting).. you will notice that when you poo you will notice that there's a green stones or white...

In addition, I also hold on to the promises of God each day. This may sound corny to some people but in times of sickness, everyone can find themselves at the feet of Jesus. Just want to share this that when He died on the Cross, we can read it in Isaiah 53:5 , that its not only our sins that He bore on the Cross, but by His wounds, we are healed. Remember, that death was made because of sin. And Jesus died for our sins so that we may be healed from sicknesses that are byproduct of sin. Im not drinking or smoking also but I had high SGPT because of wrong lifestyle and eating habits also. Prayer without act is also useless. I lose weight, and now maintaining healthy eating habits. Be creative in cooking especially if you know that it will help you a lot. DO not eat too much fats, or oily foods. Brisk walking for 30 mins upon going home instead of riding a cab. Those are things that I did and still doing. I received this message: "Drinking: 2 glasses of water after waking up helps activate internal organs, 1 glass 30 mins before eating helps in digestion, 1 glass after taking a bath lowers blood pressure, 1 glass before sleeping avoids heart attacks and stroke." In summary, we need to drink lots of water. ;) It's possible. Just have a proper mindset to eat the right foods and do the right thing.

    Junelle - I agree.

Normal - SGPT for female is 0-31. My SGPT started at 56 last June. I was advised to drink essentiale twice a day. And to drink 2-3 liters of water per day. Fruits and vegetables. Exercise. Actually VITA plus is not merely medicine, its a juice drink which is a combination of 5 vegetables that can be drunk by people, even babies starting 6 mos old and above. Im recommending it based on my own experience. I even give samples to my friends who also testify that it helped their families with constipation, dizziness, and others. I don't want to keep something to myself that helped me a lot. For I cannot give what I do not have. But for diabetic persons, it is advised to let them drink 1 glass per day only. I went to the doctor last July, my SGPT was 85. But I didn't lose hope, rather, I prayed harder because I know that God did not intend for us to be sick but to be healthy. By God's grace, with the things I mentioned above, I went to the doctor just a few weeks ago, my SGPT is now 27.34! I also encourage everyone to declare good things everyday. For life and death is in the power of tongue. Always ask God's help everyday and speak things like, "Lord Jesus, I submit myself to You and I know that You are my Healer. Be God in my life. I declare life, healing, and strength for this day. Protect me with your love. Amen." Something like that.
  • Yes it is ... I have my SGPT on normal level now ...

    Hello Sir/Mam,
I have gone for regular check ups and found that my SGPT is 85. I am 23years old and never drunk any hard drinks. Is it cureable as I had taken Silybon 140 tablets for last 6 weeks as consulted by my doctor. So please let me know if it is cureable.....
    Waiting for your reply
  • Oh ... I have fatty liver as well. My doctor just told me to diet ... My advice is let her drink plenty of water, try it for a week at least 8 glasses a day .. more of it would be better. Notice that she would keep on urinating and it will be a good sign since it is cleansing her body. Tell her not to stop the urination else it would result to kidney stone.
Let her be vegetarian if she could, like more on high fiber food like banana ...
Hope your Mom gets well ... oh the pains are probably just stress ... let her sleep at least 8 hours a day ...
  • Zsa Zsa
For almost four weeks already ive taken my mom 70 yrs. old with diabetes to the doctor weekly for lab tests for her nagging abdominal pain. Her ultrasound showed no stones anywhere but fatty liver. Last weekend she's been given essentiale, nexium and euglodin. Today her FBS result is 6.6. Tom her amylase level result will come out. What do you think is the best cure for fatty liver and if ever to pancreatitis. Do you know any good doctor for this case? Moreover, she has nerve pains along the back of her legs and also cramps.
I will surely appreciate your advice. Thank you.

junelle- thanks a lot. i really appreciate it. by the way.. is it ok if i share my progress with my treatment so people who have problem with sgpt or hepa b. In case I got cure and converted to normal values of my sgpt. I would be inspiration or help them not to loose hope. right now i agree what you said prayer, healthy living, positive thinking. I come up with 2 words that will help us in fighting any disease and virus by developing to ourselves that is the 2D.. discipline and determination..
    Godbless
  • Hi Jerp - I keep on saying that I am not a medical person, I am just sharing what I have experienced and what my doctor had advised me. I don't know how many weeks or months it would take to lower down your SGPT to a normal value. It would be best to continue living healthy and have it check once a month for monitoring.

Hi Aileen - I would say, prayer, exercise and eating healthy. Fruits and vegetables is all that we need. I don't recommend medicines because it doesn't always work for everybody ... so it's best to just do the normal things; eating and exercise.

hi. i have high blood - 140/100 before and I was told to drink Vita plus. It worked. Now my BP is 110/70..It's effective because its a herbal juice consisting of malunggay (they call it miracle veggie, dahon ng sili, talbos ng kamote, uray, and saluyot. I had a feeling of numbness also, but it was removed. By prayer, exercise, low-fat diet and Vita plus. My triglycerides was high also before, now its 0.72... :-) If you have friends working in PGH, doctors are also giving this to their patients. There was one patient with liver cirrhosis, it was cured also.

    Hi.. Junelle
This is jerry may tatanong lang sana ako, nabasa ko yung mga post and about there concern. Kasi I share the same situation. Na pending ako sa medical because of high sgpt. And they had found out that I had hepa b.. I know that it is also one of the cause of high sgpt.. My sgpt last june is 77u/l (nornal 0-41).. Somebody told me take a balance diet just like what your advising and I also drink korean red ginseng.. Then after a month bumaba siya to 56u/l.. I was required by my physician to take a blood extraction this time refered niya sa National Kidney Institute and turn out ganun pa rin. Normaly, ba yung sgpt ilang weeks yan bago mag normal values. If you follow strictly having a healthy living.. And yung 56 is it really high as in the worse figures regarding sgpt high value? Thanks... Godbless
  • Hi May, I guess you should ask her doctor about it. You could sue the doctor malpractice and take his license if he is giving your mom wrong medications ... so I guess no doctor would ever give a patient wrong medications for that reason ...
However, please let your mom drink plenty of water and have at least a walking exercise of 30 minutes a day during the morning ... it would help lower it down. Have her sauna if she can't exercise, to take out those bad cholesterol.
    SPA helps :)

hi. i just want to ask regarding my mother's sgpt it went up to 96 from 68.before it went up to96 her doctor prescribed to drink simvastatin and upon my research it shouldnt be taken if you have a liver problem coz i believe the medicine is used to lower down cholesterol Thanks

hi ate junnelle, ahmm..cge po try ko po un tapos sabihin ko na langpo sa inyo ung nangyre..tnx a lot ate junnelle..God Bless
  • Hi Marie, wow I think that's too high if it is in U/L like the one I had. Try mo lang water, diet and exercise. I guess if you do that it will lower down. Try mo jogging or exercise na talagang pump yung heart mo ng fast para makapag circulate siya ng maayos. Try doing that beach side not roadside. I was na lang din inhaling pollutions. Good luck syo. I hope maging okay na lahat.
  • Marie
elow po..ate junelle, bakit ganun po?nagddiet naman po ako tapos ung sgpt ko lalong tumaas before 134 tapos bglang naging 168 na po. natanong ko po ung doctor abaout sa unit of measurement nla sabi nia po U/L daw po.. so she gave me a medicine which is LEGALON 140 mg. i drink plenty of water plus fruits, less fatty foods na po ako.what should i do na po? im applying for abroad sgpt na lang po ung hinhintay sa akn n result ko, the rest po kasi okei na ung result. sana po makareply ka po agad. salamat po ng marami ate junelle..
  • Hi Marie, I guess it would be best to ask your doctor about it. As I have mentioned, I am not a medical person. I made this post base on my experience and the tips I have given are just basic things needed for the cure. My SGPT is normal now and as for you taking medicines, it seems to be working but I don't know if that number is normal or high since my result is in u/l and normal range within that unit is 4 to 36.
  • Marie
hello po ulit..may medicine naman po na binigay ung doctor saken..last wik po nagpalab. ako the result was 142.30..after a week nagpalab. po aq ulit un kasi ang sabi saken naging 134.10 na po..puro fruits and water plus vitamin e..do i need to ask po ba kung anong unit of measuremnt ang ginagamit nila bakit mataas ung result ng sgpt ko?..tnx po ng marami..
  • Hi Dhel, as always my advice would be drink plenty of water, eat healthy and exercise.

No need for some medicines :P Water therapy is the best.
  • dhel
hi! junnelle! i'm applying abroad and my sgpt is 90, my doctor advise me to take diet, exercise and take sylimarine capsule plus vitamin b complex.. after a week i got a same result! pano ko kya mapababa ang sgpt ko within a week? what kind of food, fruits to eat to help me reduce my sgpt?
  • Hi Marie, I don't know what unit is that coz during my laboratory it's in u/l and the normal value as stated above is 4 to 36 u/l and mine is 49 u/l.
Right now I have a normal value na.
What did I do, well pretty much just drink water at least 8 glasses a day. Just eat healthy, avoid too much cholesterol. If you can't take it that you cant eat meat, you could but limit it tapos you exercise lang. About sa medicine, I am not a doctor so I am not authorize to give you that and you shouldn't ask anyone or medicate yourself without doctors advice. Cheap lang naman consultation eh, compare mo sa gasto mo if ever nagkamali ka ng take ng medicine.
    Good luck
  • Marie
  • Hi smoke, please read above statements. The answer to your question is there.
    Thanks
  • elow guys, can you give me some advice? my SGPT is 400+ what shud i do to make this to normal. I drink bt not too much.
  • Sorry Aldrich, I do not know if there's a difference between the two.
  • Aldrich
Hi Junnelle, this is my first time to post my comments about my lab results.... it turns out that normal range of my SGPT is 5-40 u/L and result is 173 but after having a diet for more than 2 weeks I have to get on my lab results in Hi-Precision Diagnostics and found out to be 96.59.

One of my diet is drink plenty of water, eat vegetables and i make green leaf vegetables like celery, malunggay and etc.

I just want to ask on do u know the difference on getting SGPT rather than SGPT-hepaprofile?
  • hi jazz, I think you already know the answers to that, just read the post :) Be healthy.

i have 280iu/l of sgpt and 131iu/l sgot and uric acid 12.7 mg/dl are there any sugesstions for me is it o high to cause liver damage should i go for drugs and is it so high for me to stop drinkin the one or 2 beers i am havin per week
  • @shailan: eat and live healthy ...

@anna rose balmaceda: better ask your doctor about it :)

@Tatas: well I really don't know ... Doctors diagnosis yun, so if you want ask a second opinion, seek for a trusted doctor. Ask a relative whom they would recommend. To tell you I had kidney stones din, maybe its one of the reason I had high SGPT also. Just take care of your mom, let her drink lots of water, kahit umi-ihi siya every now and then, it would be good for her. Let her eat healthy and have an exercise.

TO ALL: I am not a doctor, nor a nurse (even I studied a year for it) ... information stated here are based on my experience. Other commentators also helps by sharing their experiences. I SUGGEST THAT YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE MEDICINES LISTED HERE, ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT IT.

Hi Junelle , thanks for fast reply, you are so nice :)

But as i know that if the liver function test (L.F.T) are not good or high,
this may leads to a blown and misfuctioning in the stomach and around ?
maybe because of chemicals & liquids spread in blood .. is it true ?
is high SGPT ratio related to this issue ?
what is the side effects of high SGPT ratio ? what causes ?

    thank you ..
  • AL, your SGPT is a just a bit over the regular range ... I guess I have mentioned some advice that you should do ... and others had given their feedbacks as well ... read above ... thanks
  • al
My SGPT is 53, what should i do?
  • Hi Jeph if you need medicine ... go to a DOCTOR ... a licensed one :) each person would need to be diagnose for everything before a medicine could be prescribed.

Stomach blown is not a symptom of high SGPT because it should concern the liver and heart. I think you might have another problem if that is the case. Also, avoid using fan and don't stop your BM or fart.

    TC

hi, 2 years before when i was doing medical test for embassy purposes my SGPT ratio was 120 . but i haven't make another test since this time . is it danger ? i always feel my stomach blown . note that i haven't drink (except very little) since 2 years, and i don't smoke, and i'm not fat .. is there any solution other than drinking water or making exercises ? is there a good medicine ? thanks ...

Hi! Junelle, my husband is going abroad but his medical exam shows that he has a high level of SGPT and he is advice to take another medical exam this coming tuesday, it will only take 3 days to have another medical exam. Does the SGPT level will decrease in just a short span of time? It just happened that he has his medical exam 5 days after my birthday and he drinks lots of alcohol and he also smoke. But before maybe 1 year ago his medical exam was all clear. THANK YOU

i'm not familiar wid godex, but it's ur doctor's prescription so follow it and do a regular exercise and drink a lot of water too.don't do vigorous or strenous exercise(bodybuilding, carrying very heavy things and very energetic exercises) coz it's also one reason why our sgpt level goes high.goodluck!

thanks for the advise Nan. The doctor gave Godex capsule to be taken for one week. I will try this first as I already bought it. Anyone here knows this medicine if it is effective in reducing SGPT in just a week?

My spt level was 122 in SEptember 13,2008. I was advised to have an ultrasound which showed moderate fatty infiltration and slight hepatomegaly with multiple hepatic cysts. I was prescribed essentiale forte 2x a day for two months, avoid fatty foods, go on a diet and do more exercise like walking for 30 minutes by our company physician. I have not consulted a gastroentrologist yet. Since September, I have lost about 10 lbs, which has decreased my BMI. But i am still obese. Can i expect improvement in the sgpt level after two months?
  • If you continue following doctors advise, yes you will see an improvement on your SGPT. Good Luck!
  • Yes leel. SGPT is based on Liver or Heart and anything that affects those would affect your SGPT. Smoking generally affects our liver and that may have caused your high SGPT.
  • leel
does smoking effects SGPT level. i used to smoke for last three years time, i did my sgpt test, showed high value of sgpt level.
  • nan
thanks a lot for ur advice.!
  • Hi Nan! Just live a healthy lifestyle and it will all be okay. No smoking, no drinking of alcohol, no fatty foods, etc. Keep on drinking and doing your exercises and it will just lower down.

I think if her doctor gave it to her, just observe for period of time if it works or not, if it is not working better ask a doctor for another medicine.

I hope your mom will feel better. But if she could exercise, it would be best if you let her drink plenty of water and at least 30 minutes continuous walking a day.

    Hello
My mom is thelesemia trait minor patient .
She is taking Asunra 400 ml and recormon 5000ml in a day.
But her Ferritin is growing day by day, now it is 4305.
    SGPT is 220 U/L.
    Will recormon can increase SGPT?
    Is it harmful ?
    How can we reduce this?
    Please guide me.

  • If you could avoid those food that you should not take in, then I guess you will be healthy. If it runs in your family, it just means you have to be more careful, because you could easily get it. But I know someone who has a diabetic family then she resorted into being a vegetarian and she doesn't seem to show any symptoms of having high sugar or any of those diabetic symptoms.

As for the gym. You have to be ready to face the food cravings, because exercise could stress you out and would make you hunger for food more than ever. If you think you can't control yourself, then I guess for now you should start on walking and just the regular daily exercise. Once you are up on the beat after a month, then you could try a more effort exerting exercise ... and eventually if you are ready, then you should go to a gym. But for me ... base on my experience, the GYM made me even fatter :P because I would eat a lot after my session.

It is all a matter of self control ... and I think you don't need a gym for you to teach this lesson. Just put in your mind that you need to exercise and you need to limit yourself from some of the food you like.

    You could do it!
  • Jason
Thanks Junelle for the very good advice...By the way, I am planning to enroll in a fitness program like gym for me to have enough exercise.. Do you think it might help?....
And given with these high laboratory results, do you think it will still back to normal?... I mean like no medicines at all?....I don't wanna be a drug dependent and i'm hoping the best for my health after this 1 month medication..
Honestly, what keeps me worried is because it runs in our family the history of diabetis.... my mom is also a type 2 diabetic and until now,she is still under medication for so many years...
Is it true that once high sugar was triggered already, no more possibilities of preventing it?..I just hear this from a word of mouth but i'm not sure if this is true...I was just thinking of something that it will somewhat tell me now that i am a diabetic already...:(
  • Hi Jason, I am not a medical person but I am a net babe :P So, I'll do the research for you to explain the result and as someone who has same experience, I will tell you what my doctor advised me to do.

    Base on http://www.daily-diabetic.com/50226711/is_your_fbs_normal.php
    From 70 to 99 mg/dL (3.9 to 5.5 mmol/L) = Normal glucose tolerance
-- So yours is above normal. Which means you have to lessen your sweets or no sweets at all for a month.

    Base on http://www.bchealthguide.org/kbase/topic/special/hw115432/sec1.htm
    * Best is less than 4.1 mmol/L (160 mg/dL).
    * Borderline-high is 4.1 mmol/L to 6.1 mmol/L (160 mg/dL to 240 mg/dL). Even borderline-high cholesterol makes you more likely to have a heart attack.
    * High is 6.2 mmol/L (240 mg/dL) or above.
-- This you have to lessen your cholesterol intake as well, because you have exceeded the borderline. Food you should avoid: mayonnaise, egg, butter, fatty foods ... actually a lot of good foods ...
If you want to drink milk, look for the non fat or skimmed milk.
I remember, I only eat fish during my diet and the oil we use is not an ordinary oil but a vegetable oil, because ordinary oil just have high cholesterol.

Same source as the above, for your LDL:
    > Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are the “bad” cholesterol. LDL is mostly fat with only a small amount of protein. It can clog your arteries. If you have high cholesterol, your doctor will want you to lower your LDL.
    > LDL should be less than 2.6 mmol/L (100 mg/dL). LDL increases your risk of heart problems, so the lower your LDL, the better. A level of 4.1 mmol/L (160 mg/dL) or above is high.
-- Just avoid the above mentioned food.

I don't know what the ratio meant, but for the SGPT, my post explains about it.

This was my doctor's advice and I am giving it to you. This involves no drug, but needs physical effort.
    > Walking for at least 30 minutes - best done on the beach side. If you do it in a polluted place, you might inhale all the pollution and instead of making you feel well, your situation might worsen.
    > Drink plenty of water. The advisable amount is at least 8 glasses a day. Water helps clean unwanted substance in our body. Just keep on urinating when you feel like it. You might have kidney stones if you will stop yourself from urinating.
    This is my additional advise.
    > Condition yourself to BM at least once a day. I do this every morning I wake up, to not bother me with my daily activities.
    > If you feel stressed out, it is nice to have a massage to relax your body.

    Good Luck!
  • Jason
Hi , last week i consulted a doctor and found out that my sugar, bad cholesterol, sgpt and ratio are all high.I was advise by my doctor to change my lifestyle but he didn't discuss the food i should eat or other things just to lower it down. He just give me medicines and advise me to take those medicines for 1 month and will go back to his clinic after 1 month for laboratory check-up again..can u help me to explain further the results of my laboratory.. I am so worried about my health :( Here are the details:
    FBS: 7.68 mmol/L
    Cholestero: 7.1 mmol/L
    LDL: 5.43 mmol/L
    Ratio: 7.71
    SGPT : 58 U/L
  • As I have mentioned High SGPT might be the effect of liver damage or heart attack. I don't know which of those situation has triggered your high SGPT. Buko juice is considered to be a medicine when someone has a kidney problem. It helps cleans the kidney as long as you urinate when you feel like doing it.

Now I wonder, why is it I have a different normal range for SGPT, commenter "health" has different range and you have a different range as well.
  • Alecs
im alecs. i had my annual medical check up early this week and got the result yesterday. my fbs, uric acid, creatinine, cholesterol were all normal. unfortunately, not for the triglycerides and "SGPT" of 70 u/L (normal value 30.00-65.00 u/L, according to the result). should i be alarmed with that? i drink lots of water, i play badminton regularly, have adequate sleep (well, i try my best), what do you think is the cause/s of this hi sgpt? and how about fresh buko juice, is it ok to drink it to help our sgpt level go down?

    thanks..God bless!!!
  • You're welcome Andoy. I have heard a priest, a doctor, my mom and a friend told me that "water is the best medicine." Hearing that from those special people, therefore I follow and relay the message.
Good Luck on your venture outside our country.
  • andoy
Junelle,i would like to thank you for the good advice that you gave me.my Sgpt goes down to 74.8 ,its a little bit high but that is all i need to pass my medical test.Drinking a lots of water really helps me and im going to do this as my daily habit..i really thank you..
  • di ko alam ang apple juice eh :) Probably yan acid naman tira sa yo :) So water na lang para safe :)
  • andoy
lately im drinking Bear Brand sterelized milk then i stop it because my sgpt goes up to 144. maybe thats why..How about apple juice ,because i read some advice here in internet that it can helps..Thanking you for time and patience
  • Oh did you know milk is full of fats as well. If ever you drink milk, look for the non-fat milk.
Here's the definition of your medicine http://www.natrapharm.com/products/essentiale.html
  • andoy
Good day,is it okay if im going to drink sterelized milk everytime i go for sleep? do you think it helps..as of now im still taking up my medication (essentiale forte) 6 capsules a day..my doctor told me it is okay because its just a multivimins. This coming thursday im going to have another Sgpt test..doesnt matter if it still high but i hope it improves..
  • You're welcome Andoy. Let me know of your development okay?
  • andoy
    Thanks for the advice..
  • Hi Andoy, have you been exercising as well? I don't know why it went up, but I am the kind of person who does not like to take medicines. I prefer drinking water, that is all I do. Medicines have side effects and sometimes if you get immune with it, it will not be effective. So, I stay away from those and use my body to heal my sickness for now. When I get old, that is the time I would take medicines if I can't do exercise anymore. Good luck to being healthy.
  • andoy
in additon ..i am applying for a job abroad thats why i need to pass this sgpt..it is ok for them if i got 75...
  • Beng Santos
    Hi Andoy,
I have high SGPT at 200+ and alkaline phosphatase at almost 130. I've yet to talk to my doctor regarding this. But my worry is, my family and I are applying for immigrant visa and for sure we will undergo medical tests.
Does anyone know if both will negatively affect my application? I heard from a friend that if something abnormal was found in blood tests, as long as that person is already under medication or maintenance, its okey. I am very much worried about this because moving for a greener pasture has been a pervent dream. Please help.
  • andoy
The first time i check my Sgpt,it was 85.3 which abnormal..then the doctor prescribe me a liver medicine and advise me to go diet and i have to comeback a week after.the week i return to the clinic it was very disapointing because it goes down only to 80.1 then the doctor said i have to undergo another try next week and he advice me to continue diet and drink my medicine. The sad thing when i cameback it was very dissapointing because instead of getting low its goes up to 144..can you believe that? i always drink a lot of water,i follow the instruction of my medication and i stay away on fatty foods..please help
  • Riceer39

  • Aliean_kid
i had an infective hepatis my sgpt reached 214 after medication & diet it is 165 before 1 week i am still on diet & as per article on web medicine also raise sgpt
  • No, it will not cause a liver damage. In fact liver damage may be the cause of that abnormal SGPT. There were 2 thing that my doctor told me, it is either a liver damage or I have had a high blood attack.
I often do feel dizzy when my cholesterol boost up. That maybe the cause of mine.
However, with a proper diet, it might be cured.
Just ask doctors advice on that one.
  • My friend has a SGPT 52 which is abnormal. Please let me know what is the problem. Will it cause a liver damaged.
  • I think the answer to that could be seen here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071211092001AAekr6m This seems to be out of the topic.
  • thet
why do children often urinate during cold days than during warm days?
  • Red wine is okay pero not too much a shot would be okay. If your husband is a heavy drinker, he has to control himself. Some people drink red wine before they sleep, this is somehow a cure for people with insomnia.

He could drink red wine every Friday as long as he doesn't overdo it.

Again, too much of something is bad :)

Good luck to you and your husband.
  • evelyn
hi! this is evelyn again, i posted last june 20, thanks for your reply.

i have this inquiry again. my husbands doctor told him to stop drinking beer, but he can take red wine instead. am not that sure if the doctor told him that he can replace redwine for beer. i just want to clear things, is it ok for my him to drink red wine instead of drinking beer? sa office kasi nila, they have their friday club, who normally drink beer after office every fridays. for my husband, instead of drinking beer, he drinks red wine. so every friday or even on week-ends, instead of beer, he drinks red wine. his sgpt last june was 93.8 u/l

i just want to ask if, is it really ok for him to drink red wine weekly? wala ba talagang alcohol content ang red wine? my husband is 40 yrs. old. am worried for him, baka kasi hindi pwede in his case to drink red wine every fridays. or is it really ok for him, basta lang wag beer?

    thank you so much.
  • Anytime Thet. God Bless to you as well, and Good luck to keeping yourself healthy.
  • thet
wow, thanks for the fast reply.... that helps ease my worries... really, thanks a lot... God bless
  • The SGPT results are connected to liver and heart, so doctors that deals with those would be the best to consult.
I guess its your diet that cause you to have high SGPT. I wonder if you eat fatty food, then it might be the cause of it. Try to eat healthy and exercise. A walk in the beach for at least 30 minutes everyday would be nice :)
  • thet
by the way, i don't drink alcohol..... i don't smoke...i have no vices i mean...... i just wonder how did i acquire having high result on sgpt... my uric acid is quite normal.... but my sgpt results 77...

  • This is very helpful Ravi Varma. Thank You soo much.
  • Ravi Varma
Every summer when I have lots of beers, my LFT (liver functionality test) shows an SGPT of 70+ and Alkaline Phosphatase of 147 (Nomal range for this is 30-120). This started with me after I recovered from Jaundice. So the docs prescribe me lots of water (fluids they call) as usual, plus they prescribe me Liv 52 (A liver functionality enhancement tablet) to be taken every night before bed time for 2 months. And ofcourse, as far as my experience goes, without exercise, all the above methods would only be 30% as effective, my doc said. Most Important facts to avoid this high count are 1. TIMELY, REGULAR and HEALTHY food, 2. NO Alocohol at all, 3. NO smoking at all 4. Lots of fluids (especially those which improve the healthy bacteria count in the intestines) like buttermilk; all this atleast stricly till the SGPT count comes down again to normal levels. Patience and strong will to continue these for 2 months without fail.. the next test would give the scorecard of your rigour.. Good Luck !
  • That is indeed high ... but don't you worry ... just help your husband follow the doctor's advice. No alcoholic drinks ... but drink plenty of water to wash out those unwanted chemicals in our body. Have a healthy living. Exercise - a walk on the beach side everyday would be nice (if you live near the beach). My doctor's advice is to have at least 30 minutes of walking everyday.
Don't jug on the roadside, you might inhale pollution, and it might worsen the situation.
Have a happy and healthy living ... don't worry too much.
  • evelyn
hi, my husband's sgpt is 93.8 u/l. the doctor advised him to stop drinking for at least 3 mos and perform lab test again. i am worried. pls advise. thanks
  • ask your doctor ... the reason for this being high may be due to high blood...
  • erwin
i just have my regular check-up. all of my blood chem results are normal except my alt/sgpt which is 85. what should i do to get this into a normal level? what will happen to me if i can't get this result down to its normal level? i really need some answers and advise. by the way, i have tiny polyps found in my gallbladder. is this one of the reasons why i have high sgpt?

    thank you.
  • You should let your daughter drink plenty of water. Is she fat? She might have eaten a lot of cholesterol. Maybe let her have a healthy diet. Visit a doctor :)
  • deepak agrawal

arnold:what is the laboratory result regarding about your SGPT?is it solved now?what is the diagnose of your doctor?
  • What is the unit of measurement? Is it U/L as well? If so, that is high.
Here's some tip that made me lose weight:
    * Drink plenty of water, at least 8 glasses a day, but advisable 5 liters a day. This is to cleanse your body from whatever abnormalities it has. The problem here is that you will keep on urinating, but it is just normal. - DON'T stop yourself from urinating :)
    * Make sure that you eliminate waste (bowel movement - BM) at least once a day. I make it a point that after I wake up in the morning, I do this, as to not interrupt any activity during the day.
    * Have a full body massage at least twice a month. This is to make your body relax. I call our masseuse every time I feel so stressed out. I do mine once a week :)
    * Walk at least 30 minutes non stop (just normal walk, it would be nice if you do this on a beach side). This was my doctors advice.
  • arnold
my sgpt result was 144. i want to know some of the most possible, effective and affordable medicines to take and also some tips for diet control. i am worried nough about this matter. thanks and more power.
  • Gopal
I am a diabetes 2 type patient taking 1 diatrol in the morning. SGPT level is 142. Please advice.
  • You have given 2 values ... which one is for female and which one is for male?

Well, indicated on the medical sheet I was given, it was stated there that 4 to 36 u/l is the average or should I say normal level. So, I based it there.
  • health
    fyi:normal values:

    SGPT: 0 - 49 U/L
    SGPT: 0 - 46 U/L
  • The normal is 4 to 36 u/l ... yours is 17, so it is normal :)

You don't have to worry :)
