The word “waste” is not negative and it is best used in the sentence to make a strong point that he really wanted to neglect the “executive” time in return of something positive and productive.

You’re too sensitive for negative words but aren’t you (unknowingly) thinking negatively against the person?

Bo Sanchez always write that way. If you really know him you know what he means. I did”nt see anything wrong in that statement,I know BO since the kerygma begun, and I have all the books he has written,Iread all his blogs, it contains the same sense.

I do not see anything wrong with it. He is indeed a good writer. That is why he quoted “executive” in that phrase. Executive time is different from personal or special time. It’s like saying we spend 8 hours of our executive time at work, and the remaining time are spent for either personal, special or family time. The word “waste” there does not refer to the time spent with his son.

well, personally i don’t see anything wrong with it besides the word “waste” being negative. taken with the point being driven, i think it’s perfectly OK. perhaps quotation marks would’ve made it easier for the reader to see through the point but i guess Bo assumes too much din minsan.

he quoted the “executive time” though. which means it’s a waste for his executive time but that doesnt tell that he wasted his time as a father.
